Hey all!
So now I'm in Iceland and have been working for a week. The church I'm working in is beautiful, there are four wall paintings, oil on concrete, and then decorations and biblical text around the arches. Basically what I'm doing is consolidating the paint, fill in the gaps in the concrete plaster and then retouching. If there are some special services in the church like weddings or funerals we go to the company's workshop and work on paintings or sculptures that need some work done to them. The people I'm working with are all very nice. There is only one licenced conservator working for the company and then a few girls that are in training. Then it is me and Kristín working in the church, both conservators coming in from abroad for the church project. Last week I have been working 12 hours a day, pretty exhausting so I'm enjoying the weekend trying to do nothing but meet up with people I haven't met for ages. And getting ready for the job interview I'm having on Wednesday in London. Last weekend I went to a Sigurrós and Björk outdoor Save the Icelandic nature gig. It was just phenomenal. Met up with my Russian friend Lana that I haven't met since 2003 when see moved back to Russia, ended up in a party in 101 Reykjavík and then went clubbing till six in the morning. It was so good to be back.
I have moved into the guest room at my friends home. She, Guðný, is living in the same part of the city the church I'm working at is in with her boyfriend, Ingvar, and their five year old daughter, Júlía. I'm being spoilt there. Ingvar is a cook and he makes delicious dinner every night and if I am still working at dinnertime they make sure there are leftovers for me in the fridge when I come home. So all I have to do is to go to work, eat and sleep. Well they are going for a vacation for more then a week so I will be taking care of the cat. hehe.
Going to the countryside tomorrow were my whole family is staying in a rented summer house celebrating my grandmas 72nd birthday.
Well you who live in London, I will be in London on Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving for Iceland on Thursday, I will be at the Dog House pub on Wednesday night if anyone wants to meet up.
